Q: So how much are you loving working on Alias?
M: For me it's a dream come true. I work three, four days a week. It's a dream job. It's so hard to be on anything that's remotely good, and for it to be a success as well, is just fantastic. I can't really think of any other parts I've ever done that I'm proud of. I don't know if you've seen any of the crap I've done in the past.

Q: Well, some. You won alot of fans as an English teacher who romances Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed.
M: I'm grateful for that role because it opened up a lot of doors for me. But did anyone really believe I was older than the kids I was supposed to be teaching?

Q: What about the mini-series The Mists of Avalon? You played Lancelot and were part of an all-star cast. That couldn't have been all bad.
M: I didn't really like the part. I needed to work, so I did it. Getting to work with Joan Allen, Angelica Houston and Julianna Margulies was truly great but I had to say stuff like, "See to the roads, she needs ointment for her fetlocks." What is that? [laughs]

Q: You were born in Normandy, France, and moved to L.A. in 1986 when you were 18. What brought you to the States?
M: My mum's American and I always went back and forth. I guess I thought if I'm going to make it, I want to make it where it's the hardest to succeed. I dropped out of high school and I think it's harder to succeed in Europe without degrees or an education. In the US there're a lot more opportunities for young people.

Q: Your stepfather is a Hollywood writer. Did he help you get a foot in the door?
M: He's been my stepdad for 25 years and I've yet to be in any of his projects. I love him but, come on, he worked on Pearl Harbor! Why couldn't I have been a sailor with two lines--'Watch out'? [Laughs] Unbelievable. he's in the doghouse.

Q: Being fluent in French, can viewers in France expect to hear your voice when Alias airs there?
M: No, I don't think so. My stepmother calls me up from France and tells me it's weird to hear me speak in French when it's not my voice.

Q: When did you realise that Alias was a hit?
M: For me it was the People's Choice Awards [when the show won for Favorite New Drama]. That was when I thought, 'Wow, people actually watch this show, and what we're doing is appreciated.'

Q: Is there a downside to the fame?
M: I never had love handles when I was a starving actor, I'll tell you that. Now it's like, 'I'll have the lobster and a steak.'
