Dear Kathryn: At one time, Vartan, a 32-year-old Normandy, France, native, wanted to be a professional pool player but decided to start acting when he realized it was an "easy" way to make some quick money.

He plays Launcelot in TNT's new original miniseries The Mists of Avalon, a female-centered version of the Arthurian legend. (Check the network's schedule for future air dates.)

The actor also has two projects due out this fall: the Fox Searchlight thriller One Hour Photo, in which Vartan's character and his family are stalked by a deranged photo-mart employee (Robin Williams); and the new ABC drama Alias, starring Jennifer Garner (Pearl Harbor), in which he plays a spy.
