Dear Marilyn: What's the 411 on that cutie Michael Vartan?

Dear Mari: Vartan currently costars with Madonna and Rupert Everett in The Next Best Thing, which is tanking at the box office. Still, the cutie (who is single, by the way) is on the Hollywood hot list and has a lot of offers coming his way. (FYI: He turned down Scream 3 because it wasn't the creative route he'd like to go.) He hasn't decided what his next film will be.
Vartan was born in Paris to a French father and an American mother and grew up in the tiny village of Fleury in Normandy. At the age of 18, he moved to Los Angeles to live with his mother, who encouraged him to try acting. Vartan first gained attention on the big screen in the 1993 Italian epic Fiorile, a performance that had film critic Michael Medved raving, "He's so hugely effective and so impossibly handsome it's hard to understand how he [has] avoided discovery by Hollywood."
Vartan believes the review was the key that opened Hollywood's doors to him. He's since starred in The Myth of Fingerprints, The Pallbearer, The Curve, Never Been Kissed and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.
Vartan has said acting was never a passion for him. Had he not turned to acting, he would have tried to become a professional athlete. He's obsessed with sports and plays everything from tennis and golf to ice hockey.
